Good teams always find a way to win when things aren't going as planned.  It might not have looked pretty at times but with some halftime adjustments, Inferno was able to pull out a 3-0 victory over Pima Surf to notch their first win in Champions league play.
The first half was a struggle.  The Surf defense stayed up on the half line forcing the forwards back and making them time their runs down the field.  Five offsides calls (and ten more that were not blown dead), made it difficult for Inferno to build any kind of momentum or create any kind of flow.  At the same time however, the defense of Olivia, Maddie, Irelynn, Caitlyn, and Paylie kept Surf from creating any kind of wave of their own with the latter two taking turns in goal for yet another clean sheet.  With the score tied 0-0 at halftime, the team would listen intently and make the adjustments necessary to turn the game around.

In the seventh minute of the second half, Emma would take a corner kick that would bounce off the goalkeepers leg and into the goal for the first score of the game.  Inferno was able to keep possession through most of the second half with different midfield and forward combinations consisting of Ellie, Izzy, Lainey, Anastasia, and Addie helping to keep the ball in the attacking zone. Six minutes later, Addie would score off of a corner kick from Emma to give Inferno a 2-0 lead.  One minute later, Olivia would set up for a free kick and assist on Addie's second goal of the game that would give Inferno's margin of victory at 3-0.  All three goals came off of set pieces which is starting to become a strength of this team.

It wasn't Inferno's best played game of this young season, but to be able to make those adjustments at halftime and come out and dominate the second half like they did bodes well for the rest of this season as it's only going to get more difficult from here.

Inferno 12g will try to make it 2-0 on the season when they face NOS Santos on October 14, 11 am at Deem Hills Park.
